Describing Sendoh in front of a Slam Dunk newbie can be difficult, though it is definitely worth a try. Reading a brief introduction to Slam Dunk the series first could help, but not required.
Sendoh who?
Akira Sendoh is another one of those fictional characters born in Japan - motherland of graphic
novels and related animations. While far from being a protagonist in the series, Sendoh's overall portrait in Slam
Dunk tends to zoom in more often than half of the main casts. Does that tell you something already?
We will not be able to proceed further without mentioning Sendoh's position in our story: a high school
basketball player who is often addressed as the one true genius of his time.
His court play, whether on paper or animated, has won as many points as a fan would hope to see in front of
players his own generation, regardless of their personal views and grudges against the man.
The seemingly fierce "ace player" is a quite different person off-court. A lover of slow-paced activities, Sendoh's
whereabouts outside of basketball practices is a real mystery of sorts. Even the most capable player of a ruling team
would want to escape from reality sometimes to enjoy a moment of his own, it seems.
Then is Sendoh the most "beloved" character of Slam Dunk? While I can't give you a clear answer because of potential
(personal) biases, I can guarantee you that the man has enough brains and charm to please most, if not all, audiences
of the wonderful Slam Dunk.
